- contributor (name, short description etc.)

- news = article? Or make a difference between blog-like articles and "breaking news"?

- I renames "basic page" to "page" and "article" to "news" for a better understanding.
- I created a content type "contributor" -> please test if you wish more fields!

I would recommend to either add some fields to the user profile instead or use a module that link nodes to profile pages.

I my opinion an event is news (Article) with (an) extra date(s). There are advantages and disadvantages to have an extra content type for this. Handling usually get's more complicated if you have more content types, unless they are really separate things, so we should thing about this in advance.
