Maybe Acquia Prosper with the Blue Color Scheme and full fluid width configuration will suite us well. Optionally we could install the quicktabs module.
I havent seen the Drupal7 Version of it in action but the one for 6 looks quite decent and nice.

This one i also could imagine to be used by us, it's called Arthemia (if it has full and fluid width as a theme option) see http://opennomad.com/drupal-themes?theme=arthemia
The Darkblue might also go, imo, but i would prefer to try out the other two before http://opennomad.com/drupal-themes/?theme=darkblue (if it can be used without any further moves with full and fluid width)
And i would volunteer to adapt a theme you want to have towards a full fluid width if it hasn't built it in.
To wrap it up, currently my two favourites are acquia_prosper for d7 in blue, and arthemia (with full fluid width). Would be great if we could check them out live on our demo-instance.

dear rolf, i wanted to ask you if you have time to install the acquia_prosper and arthemia on our drupal? we decided to stay with some blue default theme (in full fluid width) jri even likes the default one but i wanted to give these 2 other themes a try.
regarding the first one: please also try to deploy the "design_pack/blue/style.css" which comes shipped with the theme, i couldnt switch to color-scheme blue via gui (under "themes" -> "configuration" -> "acquia_prosper" drupal 6 i have). maybe there is a readme in the theme package with some instructions on how to install this theme "design packs".. thanks for giving it a try. if that does not work at least the hyperlinks would need some color adjustment (from red to lightblue) in the default style.css.
the arthemia theme needs yet to be adapted to full fluid width, if we also want to consider it.
